RESILIENT FOXGROUND
Nestled within the Illawarra rainforest of the NSW South Coast region, this architectural intervention seeks to integrate two pavilions with a central circular courtyard.
Framing the vistas of Seven Mile Beach fringed by eucalypts and rainforest, the new communal courtyard offers a get together for family and friends, as well as a sunny place to sit and read a book.
A new carport with a fly roof doubles as a sheltered barbecue area, creating a flexible space for entertaining, whilst internal renovations accommodate multiple guests for special occasions. The existing house has been retrofitted to meet bushfire safety standards, allowing it to be securely shut down when unoccupied.
The geometry utilised by Carlo Scarpa has influenced the makeup of the new retaining walls which fold up to become to barbecue area and enclosure to the carport. Geometric expression continues in the ground plane through varied paving elements that define and articulate the space.
